Let's hear your opinions on how we can make the site better. What things would you like to see added? What things don't you like or think could be made better?

Be as honest as you like, we wont take offence ;)

Well, there was that idea I started on that thread that you and you alone responded to, that is talking to Google herself and getting ourselves recognized within Google Inc.

Aside from that, I've met Rob Kutner, Daily Show Writer, and talked to him about Googlism. He said it wasn't completely material for the show, because we're not totally serious. I said we are totally serious, so I think he's doing some research right now.

I also think that we should do some project that has some meaning of some kind. Like the Geobear thing: http://www.mvn.net/geobear/info.html

Well...I enjoy the site layout in itself. Simple and pretty easy to navigate.
One thing I've been hating....The fact you have to click the little 'quick reply' button to start typing instead of just easily going into the box to type. I suppose it's some sort of precautionary thing, but I'm a lazy person and don't like it. :9

I sent him an e-mail. However, you gotta remember, there is a strike right now... anyone know anyone from the colbert report? what if we got a member onto one of these shows? :icon_idea: :icon_exclaim: :icon_question: :icon_exclaim: :icon_question: :) :D

Well...Colbert tends to twist things around too often. May make the CoG look bad, which is not what we're out to do, or just simply idiotic. He's also Christian (or is on the show) and usually forces his ideas onto the guest (at least on the show).
But I say if you can verbally wrestle with him (Or do like that one guy did and just throw a mug of water on him! =D) you can go right ahead!

GeoffBoulton
November 10th, 2007, 05:32 PM
All publicity is good publicity ;) As long as someone reasonably intelligent was on the show, only Christians would see them as idiotic. It's the only fall-back they have to defend the idiocy of their own beliefs!

IMO post counts should be removed from the forum (or made invisible). It just encourages people to compete over them, resulting in worthless spam posts.

Yes, as scikidus said its a joke. We don't care. I make sure I don't post just for the sake of posting. I try to make sure I have a decent statement to contribute to the thread.

Yes, a joke that's been taken too far and wasn't really funny to begin with. And you have posted about it several times. This happens on every forum that has post counts, and it's stupid and annoying.

Well, I haven't noticed anyone competing over those, but they do produce some worthless spam, so they should probably go too.

It was not a joke that was hilarious to begin with.

Sure its nothing hilarious, but we didn't intend it to be. It was mentioned a few times, sure enough it stuck between me and scikidus.

If you want to PM each other about it, go ahead, but posting it on the forums is pointless spam. As I said, it's a "joke" that happens on every forum with visible post counts and it's never funny or entertaining, it's just repetitive and annoying. It's pretty much as bad as people posting to say "First post!"

Wallsy.

rzm61

Hey man,
first off the meaning behind an inside joke doesnt have to be understood only by the people who are involved with said joke.

PMing about one another on that topic is pointless.
Us spamming however. Your just way off there man.
Its not spam. Me and Scikidus arent posting just to say our post count.

Spamming is posting pointless material, so far from our posts they arent pointless. Well except for the "Googlism Rocks" posts Scikidus was making.....well anyway, its a stupid little joke that me and scikidus share. If you dont like it, well then just piss off and dont read our posts about it :)

Sure we can, Loki, right after three points:

1. Putting aside the "antispam," every post rzm61 and I have talked about post count in hasn't been just "haha, look! I have more posts than you!" No, we add something else into the post. It is not the same as first posts.

2. rzm61 is right. Wallsy, if they bother you so much, have you not the cpability to skim over those horrible few sentences?

3. Loki, in your new avatar, is that your dog? with binoculars? and a guy sniping wiht a gun?

Now I'm posting in response to the OP:

There seems to be some kind of glitch in the logon process. I have to click "Remember Me" in order to stay signed in. Otherwise, if I click anything after signing in, it logs me off.

It's kind of annoying.

EDIT: Oh, another thing: in the "More" section for emoticons, for some reason it's really wide. Can that be fixed? Please? Just a small thing that bugs me.

Digression and repitition.

EDIT: but i think most of you know that..

Those are both difficult ones.

With repetition - well, you don't expect some new poster to read every single thread before starting a new one, eh?

I also extend that courtesy to the established members who, for no fault of their own, can't be arsed reading every single post. :D

I think the best thing there is to shout out *we've got a thread on this* and either take the topic there or get a mod to merge the threads.

As for digression ...

OK - This is an issue that polarises folks; some posters love the freedom and spontaneity that goes with topics that are flexible. Others like rigid frameworks and the comments to be about the subject in the header.

I prefer the former but that's just me.

For me, going off topic is both normal and expected in IFU, Unreg etc.

So if we try to keep to the spirit of the thread we should be fine.

I do like the idea of having a serious area and a stupid one. IFU should be used for all daft convos and the other areas for serious comment.

The main thing i like about this site is the friendliness. Second to that, the helpfulness and its entertaining as well. I used to spend most of my time on 4chan and the most friendly it got was "go kill yourself" and the most helpful it got was "go kill yourself".... It was very entertaining though :P

huntedbyninjas

We're getting there :D

Well no those two things go together. digression AND repetition, you see. They both come in one package here, and its happening a lot more lately.

EDIT: which is why i partly dont like this site...Theres a lot of things i do like though. The fact that we can actually get into a serious topic AND have fun. you dont see that much in other site forums...

Well, as you can see, we've implemented the idea and now have 'serious' and 'general' discussion boards.

As long as people respect their advertised usage then everyone should be happy and we can choose whether we feel like a serious debate, some fun banter or switch between the two as the mood suits us.

I don't think there's a problem with going off-topic as long as it's in the 'spirit' of the discussion. We all wander off and want to talk about related issues or things that just happen to come up in the discussion. As Fallen said, things can get a bit dry if you rigidly enforce 'rules'.

The point is that people should respect discussions, by implication that also means respecting the users involved in those discussions, and not start posting completely irrelevent stuff back and forth, pushing the discussion into the back of beyond and effectively destroying the thread.

Thats how i feel right now. I agree, going off topic is fine as long as its in short bursts. Its seems to be escalating and thats what bothers me.

I agree. I dont expect it to be on topic all the time, a little goofiness is nice especially after a rough debate. i just would like less goofiness in a serious discussion.

No they didn't. They just decided to enforce rules that were already in place but most people failed to read. The Doc is right. Rules that are unclear & not clearly visible are unenforceable.

@ Sci. Complete n00bs do exist. The CoG is my first forum. When I became a member, like Doc, I didn't even know what trolling or flaming was and ended up doing both, albeit unintentionally.

Imho, as ministers/mods/admins, it's your job to show n00bs the ropes, and every new member to this site qualifies as a n00b. As reps of this Church you should be the welcoming committee for the CoG & guide (not dictate) new-comers into the fold.

Ok, that's fine by me, just thought it would be another way to help out god a little bit. There's nothing wrong with profit either.

Anyway it is possible to detect the browser and do something cool if it's Chrome.. I'm still new at php but something like this should work(I tested it in chrome and IE):

<?
if(strpos(strtolower($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']), 'chrome')!== false )
{
// Code executed if Chrome
print("Chrome");
}
else
{
// Code executed if not Chrome
print("Not Chrome");

CoG Mod's need to provide more beer for the masses, I'm lacking suds and this displeasers me. And yes I'm aware that usually there are no 'r's included in displeases.

Mickey's is pretty much the only domestic I'll drink. I'm a Guiness man, mostly.

Well, if it's the regular domestic brands, like Coors, Budweiser, etc., then yes, those are like piss-water. But the microbrews are good. Fat Tire is popular around my parts. (http://www.newbelgium.com/beer/fat-tire) (Although anybody who has the audacity or ignorance of calling it a "Flat Tire" does not deserve to drink it.)

So, Daruko, is this you're idea of improving this forum, as you've talked about in the past? Or are you too busy kissing Roger's ass at the moment?

A brilliant response Daruko. I expected no less from you. Bravo. Still, it's not on par to the kind of response Roger would've given. I'm disappointed in you Daurko--surely, given your obsession with Roger, you could've come up with something more seething and hate-filled, instead of the oh-so clever response of "fuck you." C'mon Daruko, I know you've got it in you!
