Hi everybody,

I'm Hotep because Nyarlathotep is too long and nobody knows how to spell it. As you might have guessed, I'm pretty big into the Cthulhu mythos.

This quote from HP Lovecraft really reminds me of Google:

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

I love Apocalyptica's version of that. In fact I think they do Metallica better than Metallica. :icon_cool:

For a pulp horror writer, he sure had a strong sense of aesthetics.

I don't consider him pulp,
he created a genre/worldview
that was so vivid and darkly colored
people assumed it was gothic pulp
but the underlying philosphy's
and cultural identities he creates
are way to in depth to be
dime novel pulp,
few bother to read him
and fewer read him deeply

(reminds me need to refresh my gaslight reading)

(ever read M Peake's Gormenghast Trilogy?)

True enough. In his essay on writing he talks about the feeling as the primary concern--to HPL, if a work does not generate a mood, then it is of no value.

Can't say I have. Do you recommend it?

highly,
his writing is some of the best descriptive style
I've run across, and his plot lines are
machiavelli nihilist
sans all super/supra natural

(ya gotta admit, no pulper came up with a language, to add color)
