The idea was already tossed out on the forums, so I thought I`d flesh it out.

I suggest a MUSH game to compliment forum and site.

Why MUSH? Simple. MUSH is the type of game, which requires a person to act out a persona, rather then fight through a persona. It requires interaction, rather then quick reflexes or quick math. It requires creativity and knowledge. It requires praying to Google!

There were requests about a chat room/server for church. Well, MUSH server does offers that kind of service. MUSHes are based off telnet communication, and members of community could have choice between raw telnet, Java interface on webpage and specialised client. In the same time, MUSH offers a bit more in a sense of security. If you are entering it anonymously, you are Guest - with limited rights and abilities.

Lastly, MUSH game is surprisingly easy to get used to, and to learn to navigate around in. And it`s not much harder to learn, how to shape it. Thus, members of society can find a letout for creativity, and enjoy a lighthearted repast.

End of Advertising.
Requirements:

Hosting, with fair bandwith and 20-30 MB of storage for MUSH. (I think it could be run off the same place as forum without trouble.)

Members, willing to perform regular work in the game, like plot-running, theme-building, grid-building and such.

Several months (2 to 5, usually) of building time.

What`s free:

MUSH games are traditionally free, so servers are open-source and free to download, install and run.

New followers. Game will attract some people from gaming circles (and proper advertisement will help, too).

Creativity outlet. Nuff said.

Coder/administrator. (namely, me)

Hmm, not entirely sure about the technical specs on that, but it sounds like a good idea.

It sounds kind of interesting, I guess, but I don't think my attention span would last that long!

It`s voluntary.

Moreso, it`s kind of addictive. You get attached to your own creations. It`s not a chat, per ce - you have at least to make a description of yourself.

being into RPGs and such I will give it a try but no MUD has been able to keep me there and happy.

It`s not MUD, Fallen.

MUDs have you go smash&bash through horde of computer monsters.

MUSH can have no monsters at all. It`s more of a socium, then adventure.

Really? I thought they were all the same just different ways to say it

So is there a difference between a MUCK and a MUSH? Besides the fact that muck is usually thicker than mush (:P)....

So a MUSH is less goal-oriented than a MUD? You have to explain this better to me as I can't think of anything other than a MUD.

I would love to help out and learn how to build these though!

See, MUSH is about roleplaying socium interaction, and not about roleplaying battle.

You make a character, which lives in a city/country/village/spacestation/island and interacts with other characters (controlled by other characters). Talking, playing, doing things, maybe fighting, maybe falling in love, maybe starting to hate, maybe backstabbing or defending. In short, you RP another life - which does not consists of day-to-day monster murder.

so it's a text based version of www.secondlife.com .... sounds a bit cheap...

First of all, it`s free.

Second, it requires bare minimum. It`s safe to say, that if you can use this forum, you are iron-clad certain able to play MUSH, as it can be played with as little as telnet application.

And third, MUSH is offering vast capabilities for coding up things on it.

So it's not so much like a RPG or MUD, but more of a sim-style thing but you only control one character...

I think I'd give it a go, if one were set up. The actual roleplaying in MUDs seems far outweighed by the dull training and leveling, so thing could actually be pretty interesting if done well.
