Why is it that people who take the bible literally, only take the select parts that they like and benefit their causes literally?

If You take one thing literally, then take it all literally. In that sense, all Christians would end up broke.

Well, I have a friend who takes the Bible literally, and I mean the 6,400 years crap, but he's really intelligent. There are loads of people who take the Bible to be false but the messages are right

Basically, taking it literally and showing quotes is a good way to feel righteous. And when someone else shows the quote, that contradicts that, there`s always chance to say he/she is a bible subverter, trying to substitute own lies for God`s command.

I don't understand why anyone bothers to argue with belivers about the bible. You may as well as argue about the meaning behind a comic book or fairy tale. God would have no need for man to get his message out. It's an idiotic supposition from the get go. The same goes for any 'holy' text.

Lets just say if you took the bible literally a lot of people would have to be stoned to death for lechery (cheating, infidelity).

A paper weight? A door stop? Anti-Theft device?

Actualy, that's a little harsh. Its a good collection of short stories and morality plays.

I use the paper from the bible to roll joins when I have nothing else to use. It seriously works great.

Not to mention that the bible tells you to give away ALL your worldly possessions and all your money and help the poor.
