No, not the "good news" the Christians like to spread, real good news. What good things have just happened in your life?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got the last of my before Christmas deadlines out of the way, it was my progress summery (read telling your tutor how you are getting on) for my final year project. The good news is I got 76% and due to the insane marking scheme that means that my final mark for the project has to be between 38% and 76%, yes that is right, though half of your mark is protected you can never do better than you do at this stage, no matter how much work you put in. I was really worried I was going to f*** up today and get less than 50 or something. Did I forget to mention this project is seriously weighted in our overall grade?

Marking.
Here, you only get one final mark, when you turn in project, nothing else.

I think they do it this way so you don't leave it all to the last week.

My boyfriend's flying in this Wednesday, and we're going to Philadelphia with my parents to see 42nd Street.

Well this thread didn't get many posts did it. Perhaps nothing good happens?
Anyway I have some good news, I passed my degree! so I can now put B.Eng after my name.

My new personally-constructed computer Minerva is up and running. Lulzily, Windows XP required 78 updates, about 80% of which were for security.

Good work, Jon.
Digs, you should`ve put in Service Pack 2. It`s got most of those in it.

I'm pretty sure I did install SP2 but maybe not. I know it's on the boot disk I used. Ah, well, what's done is done.

I hate reinstalling XP for that reason. Fortunately I have MCE 2005 so I don't have quite that many updates to install.
Not gone for vista yet then? Can't say I blame you. I'm holding out for SVP2 I think.

A friend I trust informs me that Vista is garbage, and no-one is writing for it at current. It's the same thing that happened to XP 64 but more harshly visible and of worse consequence for Microsoft.

A lot of things implemented in it are simply inane. Like the sadistic DRM stuff.
And let`s not forget abhorrent compatibility.
I`d rather wait for another kind.

I have heared mixed reviews, some people say it is brilliant, others say that it is rubbish, and that is mostly because of the drivers. Remember, people said the same about XP when that first came out.
BTW to find out if you have SVP2 right click on my computer and select properties. It should say if you have it under computer information.

Okay, confirmed, I'm using SP2 and still had to download like 78 updates. That is pretty ridiculous guys.

Don`t switch update on, then?
Frankly, I simply shield XP with separate firewall. Outpost or BlackIce.

I wonder how much of Vista's negative reception has been due to /.
I mean, think about what the typical userbase of /. does for a living.

Man, Ko', I imagine the average slashdot reader is thirteen and lives in mom's basement for a living. Just look at the majority of the comments after news stories. There are lots of intelligent posts but there are lots of dumb posts, too.

To put the thread back on track, Today, I finished a four page paper on the use of similie in the Illiad that totals for 15% of my grade in world literature this semester. That is a Good Thing! (TM)
