I don't mean Hilary or Obama (and yeah I'm being the self-centered American here, but you internationals keep an eye on our politics so you know what the score is). I mean the Platonic ideals of the groups they represent: Hilary for women, and Obama for blacks. African Americans. Pick the term which offends you the least. Which do you think would win the presidency? All other things equal, who would win? The white woman or the black man?

In other words, are we more sexist or racist?

uh generally today, i would say americans are more racist than sexist.

Our culture is more racist, easily. It's sexist too, sure, but the racism in our culture is the greater influence.

I don't want race or sex to influence who leads me. It should be whoever is most capable. Clinton's has made uneducated decisions more than once in the past, and Obama's inexperienced; of the two I'd take Obama. If Clinton becomes president, you can bet we won't see another woman reach candidacy for some considerable time.

I'm not really into voting and I don't really know anything about these two candidates. I'd say I would vote for whoever has the best mentality, screw whether or not they're female/male or black/white.

Why don't we have a black woman run with a hispanic vice president? Then everyone is happy! xD

Only if he's gay and they're both of obscure religions (or none at all) ;)

lol by the time this country is tolerant enough to accept that, our planets atmosphere will be gone and/or the sun will have burned out

I don't think any of those two will win. I don't even think any of those two will win the democratic nomination. In the end it'll be business as usual Edwards vs Giuliani, maybe Gore if he decides to drop in at the last minute, but I doubt he would win also.

Yeah, but I mean I'm talking about hypothetically. If the presidential candidates were just a white woman or a black man, which do you think would stand the better chance?

If it was just white woman vs black man, i think Obama would win because everyone would be trying to show how America "Isn't Racist Anymore."

BUT I think that in the coming election, either of them will get chosen AND elected simply because they're a woman or black.

I think they're probably on a par aqt the moment, with the difference being in perspective.

Sexism is easier to get away with, so is probably more prevalent and open. If, as a male, you are accused of it, there are enough men in positions of power to get away with most cases.

Racism is more taboo and therefore more covert. It's also more sensationalist, so we tend to see even the smallest case hitting news headlines and therefore think that racism is more prevalent. It might well be, but most of it is passive with people not even realising they're doing it.

As for Clinton/Obama, I don't think either of them will make it. Clinton would probably make a fantastic president, but I think congress is too much of a boys club. And as much as the US tries to portray itself as the land of the free, I just don't think it's ready for a black president yet.

but wait, is the question would a black guy be more likely to win against a white guy than a white girl against a white guy? Or, would a white girl win against a black guy?

Which is it?

I think polls on this issue are meaningless because PC is ever more prevalent, the true colours of americans will show when they're on a voting booth and nobody's watching.

The way the things stand at the moment, in a corporate environment my money would be on a black guy over a white woman, purely based on aesthetics. Sorry to be blunt about it, but a black face stands out more than a white face and will get your company noticed more.

In the political arena, my money would be on a white woman getting the nod. If nothing else, she could be used almost as a weapon of sorts. Sending a woman to meet with heads of fundamentalist countries can make a strong statement.

I admit that there would be a hilarious irony in watching Hilary rise to a position of power and hobnob/influence a great deal with a culture that's all about taking all power away from women.

If Hil-dog promises to destroy all Islamic culture down to the last, I'll vote for her even though I loathe her for making uninformed decisions, because the earlier scenario would actually be pretty lulzy. Until then, hurray John Edwards(seems really smarmy and that makes me want to punch him in the face a lot, but he also looks to be a fairly capable man) and Barack Obama(a fresh face, probably willing to try lots of audacious stuff, with perhaps interesting results).

Hillary Clinton's a woman?

Seems to me like we're faced with almost the same choice as we have been for the last two presidential elections..."The lesser of two idiots"

I wouldn't vote for Hillary Clinton if my life depended on it. She's a censor happy, book burning shrew.

You better watch out...I think she's a guy....I ain't quite sure, but something ain't right.....Hillary Clinton's comin' to town....

I find it annoying that elections have come down to just what NOHC34 said, the lesser of two idiots. We should have someone up there that could actually do something and people want to vote for them instead of people saying 'well, he's not as horrible as she is' or the other way around....

If you want to see a canditate never make it, put forward a socialistic, gay, black woman with gothic clothing and athiestic beliefs.

Honestly, I say we clone Ronald Regan and run him.

How could you NOT vote for a man that was once quoted as saying "Where would this country be without this great land of ours"?

We should have someone up there that could actually do something and people want to vote for them instead of people saying 'well, he's not as horrible as she is' or the other way around....

But that's the way the media presents our candidates to us. Sure, we get the occasional "baby kissing" popularity fluff, but more often than not we're presented with attacks from both sides such as "Canidate X was singlehandedly responsible for spoiling the taste of all the bubblegum in your district!" and the like.

The last election I felt desperately sorry for US citizens. Bush vs Kerry is a choice no human being should have to make. No wonder so many people abstained. You've got to know Kerry is useless if he couldn't beat Bush running for a second term.

At least the next election is shaping up a little better. Clinton vs Obama is a decent choice, although Edwards looks like a complete tit (making him the likely winner I guess).

It won't be Clinton vs. Obama, if anything, only one of them will make it through to the national election. Republican candidates are all looking a bit grim but hey...
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe

Really a McCain or especially a Ron Paul wouldn't be too horrible, but considering the outcome of the election of our current Republican president, it's frankly not too likely that we'll get another one for quite some time.

I forgot about ron paul... he's alright, no chance in hell the republicans are nominating him though
