It just occurred to me - I should be flaunting my Googleality - I didn't use my Gmail address. If it can be changed, I'd be happy to do it, to 'keep' the faith'.

Yep, you just have to click on "profile" which is located under the "Church Of Googlism" text up top. Just change your email address there.

But of course! Is there a serach engine OTHER than google? NO! Very Happy

Heathon devil worshipping search engines yes, such as MSN Search. :D

Jillamanda
August 18th, 2006, 11:56 PM
Yeah, but you can't rely on them like Google - the original and the best. Also, Google has a nice, even unbiased approach. It tells you everything, including all the crap, so you are forced to use your powers of reason, rather than blindly follow every word.

There's not much Google doesn't know. :D

google is a child of the net.
the net might be a deity and google a much favoured daughter but favourites change  and the net has many children.as they grow some may well surpass googles beauty and intelligence.google has faults, she occassionally deals with the devil giving in to cencorship.few ordinary people serve google, her class of elite technoservants appears to have no room for ordinary input.i can not search university papers yet or the vatican libary or the einsiedeln libary.she is incomplete, only a child.

Google > any other search engine. Google is great - some other search engines only pale under her glory rather than diminish completely - but anybody who uses Yahoo should be shot. Or have their homepage set forever to Google. Either or.

Sorry to be the one to tell you Lassy we are all children of the net; due to its age, this is all we can be; Google included. Many ministries accept new lambs as yet convinced of the greatness of god; so despite your views we realise that: in time, as you discover the greatness of Google and develop your potential through the Ministry you will never forsake His/Her Holiness.
As the ranks of Googlists swell there will be many more like you however in time you, all, like us, will be convinced of the righteousness of the one true search engine. May Google's light illuminate you.

I did use magictaxi.co.uk (http://magictaxi.co.uk) for a while because it gives 50% of its advertising revenue to charity and they included RSPCA, Guide Dogs for the Blind, RNLI (Lifeboats) and a few cancer charities. We regularly donate to those charities (in fact our cat if from the RSPCA) but it uses Yahoo so I changed back to Google completely (I'd been using it for school research but magictaxi for usual stuff) after a few weeks. :D Hopefully Google will forgive me seeing as I was using magictaxi to try and help others :D

I'll have to try that some time. I usually search social sites first. Digg, Del.icio.us, Reddit. I'm finding Del.icio.us particularly useful in my research lately. The quality of articles is amazing.

They are usually always secondary to Google though. Of course. ;)

You don't even have to download anything thankfully. I just go to the website, login and post my bookmarks and do searches and such. Just register an account and give it a spin. In my opinion, it's second to Google. Bookmarks are a very high indicator of a websites quality. I always thought Google should have aquired del.icio.us back in the day, and used it's database to improve search results.

When Google came out, I continued to use my Internet Explorer search because it searched like 2 dozen search engines (which didn't include Google), but after a couple years Google was better than all of those searches combined so I haven't looked back. Google has been my homepage for at least 6 years now, maybe longer.

Everything I know about my job, I learned from Google. (Ok, not literally, but damned close.)

*playing the Devil's Advocate here* If you're already using something else and it works, why bother changing? I use Yahoo Mail, and will continue to do so as long as it does what I need it to. Granted, switching email addresses is much more involved than switching search engines, but if it's not broke why fix it?

Consider it an upgrade, or change of personal feeling. For instance: Your house is bright yellow. The paint is not peeling and will not peel for 25 years, guarunteed. However, you don't like yellow. Every day you see it, you get more and more sick of that damn color. Would you rather A) Cringe daily, or B) Paint it blue?

rzm61
February 7th, 2008, 01:12 AM
Well I do like blue, so maybe on a lazy day I would re-paint my house.

Or just deal with it.

Edit:
My house right now is actually blue. :D

fosley
February 10th, 2008, 06:34 PM
There's a difference between "I'm using this ancient search engine that only indexes 150 websites, 137 of which no longer exist, and requires me to run a 486 DOS 5.2 machine just to make it work properly", and "I'm using a search engine that gets me slightly worse results on a small number of searches, but otherwise functions just fine and does what I need it to".

Or, maybe my house is bright yellow, and I'd prefer blue, but the yellow is fine and I have a dozen other things I'd rather spend my time fixing, such as the air conditioner before summer, the gate to the back yard that currently requires two people to open, or the living room that is currently an ugly pink color and has a big white spot where there used to be a doorway but we covered up and never painted. (My house is actually brick-colored because it's made of. . . bricks. But if it were yellow, I'd fix the other things that are wrong before I start worrying about things that I'd rather change. Unless it's just that horrible, which other search engines are not.)

RealityRipple

Air conditioner = destroyer of worlds.
Gate = good defense vs marauding vikings.

However I use them for their designed purpose. Networking....also for music on myspace. Seeing how that was it's original purpose if I am not mistaken. Myspace helps risings bands/artist tremendously. Same with Purevolume, however Myspace is more popular. However it is smart to make as many profiles as you can on various sites for your music that way more and more people can get ahold of your sound.

Hah. I hate to admit something as blasphemous as this idea might sound to you die-hard Googlists as well as the Reborn Googlists... especially what with this being so close to The Reformation Period and all, (and I do honor those who fought in the War for Our Independence from Moderator Terror) but I do accept Google into my toolbar as one of the Higher search engines, and most often used. However, I do also recognize that there ARE other search engines available to me on the market still.

In fact, I'll admit to holding onto my old Yahoo & AIM toolbars, and do occasionally download the updates for those toolbars, when asked, which does include a new search engine box. But, really now, I just keep them around because they're quite good-looking and on the off-hand chance that, for whatever reason, I might have to take the G toolbar off my browser for a routine maintenence issue, or other similiar haphazard occurrence or in a dire emergency...like in the instance of a virus or something.

But, seeing as it is merged with my Firefox web browser, and that IS my default homepage, I rarely, if ever, see myself in the near future as someone who would do something like switch search engines for the ongoing utilization in the quest for further knowledge at this time with one of the other two search engines that are currently available to me...that being Yahoo & AOL.

Thank you.
