I just thought it would be cool to game with fellow CoG members. I am either on UrbanTerror or Left 4 Dead. Steam ID= adunamia
In case anyone was wondering, steam and Left 4 Dead run just fine under wine. Cedega plays well too.
Please post your favorite games so CoG members can game together and share the joy of shooting shit in the face. (or other types of game play)

Hey now, thats just mean *L* Ain't nothing wrong with WoW. It's cheap (they could really get away with charging people more than they do, honestly) and its mildly entertaining. The graphics are stunning when viewed on the right monitor and graphics card, and really aren't so bad even on an old computer. Its miles above other games because of the very fact that it doesn't install with registery keys, meaning I could load my entire WoW folder on a USB key (provided I have one big enough) and play it from any computer I want to with an internet connection, addons and all. Since I am on dial up, you have no CLUE how very helpful this small thing is, since I cant keep redownloading these patches if I had to reinstall everything every time one of the computers goes down.
I go through my phases, naturally. A few months, I will play it every single night for hours on end. Then that time slowly trickles down till I wont play it for weeks on end, and even then only to go on and clean out the guild bank or something. During this time, my interest in other things is stronger. Then, I will get bored with that, and WoW will come to the fore again.
Although, I am waiting for the new game called Darkfall to come out. Its more like UO than it is WoW, so I dont know how much I will truly get into it, but it looks to be an awesome game. Unfortunately, they pushed back the release till the end of next month... silly peoples.

There is a lot wrong with WoW. It costs money, which is ghey since there are free mmo's that are more fun to play and its hardly entertaining. The graphics are buttfugging ugly when viewed on any monitor and graphics card, and make you want to throw an old computer out the window. It's miles below other games despite of the fact that it doesn't install with registery keys, meaning I could load my entire WoW folder on a USB key and play it from any computer I want to with an internet connection, addons and all. Since I fail, and I'm on dial up, this helps to compensate for some of teh fail.

TROOF
I used to play WoW, for about a year and a half. Took me a fucking year to get to 60, then another six months to get to 70 (My parents restricted my time). However, once I reached 70, I realised that I had no time to raid, and even if I did get a full set of whatever armour, Blizzard would just release a new patch which would nullify it, that PvPing was impossible, due to the vast amount of people who had grinded it, I hated Outland due to the fact it was just silly, and not as beliavble as Azeroth (Azeroth was good because I felt that although it was fantasy, most of it looked plauible at least. Outland was just fucked up.)and because Blizzard was staling my money.

I play. . . oh dear Google, how will I ever touch this list in the 7 minutes before I go to bed?
Ok, talking multiplayer only, I play Left 4 Dead, Everquest 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, and some others. I know many of my games are multiplayer-capable, but most games' multiplayer modes suck unless they were designed for it. Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc. are pretty decent, as long as everybody's on the same page. When one person is trying to get immersed in the story and everyone else is trying to beat the game, it sucks (which is much of why I solo a lot in most MMORPGs).
What I would really like to get back into is P&P rpgs, because they are a lot of fun. I just don't like having to physically find people to play with, especially when most of the obvious places have a lot of people who are so weird the weirdos cast them out. I've determined that it should be easy enough to play the game over the internet using something as simple as Netmeeting, and I'm pretty sure many of the modern IM programs can handle it too. The big issue here would be bandwidth for video, but you can drop it to just voice and be good, even over dial-up. Any sort of whiteboard program (preferably one where you can create maps/illustrations/doodles beforehand and save them, then load them as needed) should be sufficient to do the typical "here's you, and there's the gobby, and here's the damsel in distress" stuff. Online dice simulators are readily available, and I bet it would be pretty easy to set up an online character sheet storage room, so the players could even swap computers without losing anything.
Now just to find some people who would be interested in playing online. :)
Ain't nothing wrong with WoW. . .Yeah, that pretty much describes Everquest 2 for me (except that I'm on a 10 mbps cable line).
And I absolutely agree the registry can be evil. It's great and all, but this shit about forcing me to use an installer to get my application on my own damned computer is retarded.

Tsar,
Link Pls with rough outline:icon_eek:
It's a modification for Rome: Total War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome_total_war), a strategy game set from 272 BC to 14AD. You can play as the Romans, Gauls, Carthaginians, Greeks, Egyptians etc. You switch between two modes of play, the campaign map, where you manage your Empire and move armies around, diplomacy etc, and the battle map, where you fight pitched battles against other conutries. RTW is a great game, but it's flawed in that the Romans always become incredibly powerful, the map only extends to Iraq, meaning that the Seleucid Empire (One of Alexander the Great's Diadochi [Successor] kingdoms) is about a third as powerful as it actually was, and there's many many historical inaccuracies, such as the Egyptians being "Mummy Returns" Egyptians (In reality, they were ruled by a dynasty of Diadochi Kings, (The Ptolemaioi) and fought in a Greek manner), the fact that you can recruit elite troops anywhere on the map, if your barracks is upgraded enough (E.G. I could recruit the Praetorian Guard in Russia), and the Britons threw heads at the enemy (The Britons actually treated shrunken heads as trophies, and were extremely valuable.) amongst many others.
Europa Barbarorum (EB) sets out to fix that. The map is about twice as big (Original (http://lazarus.elte.hu/~hzsolt/terkep/rtw/rtw_political_vanilla.png) EB (http://img472.imageshack.us/img472/476/ebmap090antiqueno9.jpg). Note the addition of Arabia, Iran, Pakistan and Central Asia. EDIT: Note that when playing the game, the campaign map actually looks like this (http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/northnovas/The%20Order/1118b-map.jpg) [That's Medieval Total War 2, a later version of Rome Total War, but it's not half as good])
It also included many other things that you can only really appreciate if you've played the vanilla, such as different ethnicities for your members, (E.g. Makedonians are more likely to become drunkards, Athenians are more likely to be atheists) and different governmental systems which weren't even present in the original game. Also, there's the addition of serval new factions, including the Saba (Arabians), Saka (Like Sarmatians, but scarier), Aedui/Arverni (To represent civil wars in Gaul), Epeiros (Phyruss' kingdom in Albania, before it got flattened by the Romans) and Baktria (In my sig, it's an Indo-Greek kingdom in Afghanistan). It's also got loads and loads of Ancient Greek in it, the Olympics, weather conditions etc. If you're still interested after this massive post, then I would recommend that you play the vanilla for a week or two first, as EB is a much harder game, and getting your head around the various government types will be hard enough without having to learn how the game basically works as well.

Due to the "blink to click" very few. You would get swarmed while you purposely blinded yourself essentially. In an update, Jamin has come to my house and got the update downloaded and such, and thus he will be playing Left 4 Dead again. I think those of you who like Counter Strike or realistic shooters should check out Urban Terror. It is mostly realistic (few shots to kill, damage from falls, limited sprint) but also has some sweet "non-realistic" qualities including wall jumping, sliding, and of course medical healing (it does take a while though). Runs like a champ in windows or Linux (I refuse to capitalize windows). Find it at http://www.urbanterror.net/page.php?6 (http://www.urbanterror.net/page.php?6)
It has a mac installer but i don't know first hand if that runs well or not. Just select your OS and download the file. It's around 700 megs, but runs off the quake 3 engine and runs well on low settings on quite old computers. Big fun. Me and my brother have a mini-clan of sorts going on. Cult of the Penguins, and who doesn't want to be in a cult :D? So thats about it for now...

I'm just waiting for a new Virtual Boy with motion tracking to come out. Strap it to your head like glasses, then make it so turning your head alters your perspective in 3D areas. You'd still need mouselook so you could turn in circles or look backwards, etc., but it would let you fine-tune your aim. If they further added small cameras (note the comments in your link above) to detect eye movement, you add even more precision.
Also, you could leave the existing mechanics alone and just make head movements alter where you look without altering where you're aiming, etc. This would let you hold your gun towards a door, but be able to check your flanks. Additionally, it would be useful in flight or driving sims, as you could look left, right, up and down in a realistic manner without losing track of what's in front of you (it would also let you look at arbitrary angles rather than 2 or 3 preset angles).
And to top it off, you get the cool stereoscopic effect.
Note that many products give you the stereoscopic effect and have motion tracking, but the image is still produced by a fixed monitor, meaning you can only look around slightly, and it would be awkward when looking near the edge of the screen since there's nothing in one half of your view. Also, a quick prayer finds these (http://www.i-glassesstore.com/iglassespc-3d.html), which offer dual 800x600 monitors in a head-mounted unit. Now they just need to add motion tracking (and make games compatible), make them cost less than $1000+, and make some high-resolution widescreen displays.
Also, ideally the screens would actually wrap around your eye from nose to temple and brow to cheek, rather than being rectangles with hard borders. The edges could be low resolution, with the fine-tuned imagery towards the center, but the graphics application would need to distort the image so the wrap-around view looked correct.

I'll bet that'll be interesting, considering where you're from. How much of it do they teach you in school? Btw, if you like that, you'll love thisI already know most of the historic events that unfolded in that time period. Actually back when i was in school, the main emphasis was on Lebanon's history back in the first world war, the second world war, after attaining independence and the civil war. But when i was enrolled in a lycee(french school) they taught us about France, emphasizing on the French Revolution and everything that accompanied it.
Most of the what i know about that time period is due to personal effort and not the schools curriculum. The fact that history lessons in public schools here are almost totally focused on the lapsed one hundred years is quite saddening.

Indeed. But Lebanon as an idea didn't really exist, pre-1919, did it not? (Correct me if I'm wrong)
Rainbow
January 30th, 2009, 10:22 AM
As an idea it had existed since the 16th century when a plot was devised amongst Christians to contact Italy and with its help create Lebanon despite the fact that the area was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. Of course the Ottomans would have had nothing of it, and strangled the uprising.
But as a country Lebanon had existed since September 1 1920, when the French declared and established what was known as "Grand Lebanon". We later acquired independence in 1943.
Lebanon as an idea had existed in the hearts and minds of the Christians, they always dreamed of procuring a state of their own separate from Muslim influence and authority. While the Muslims historically always bounded themselves with the Syrian sphere of influence. You can know understand from where the bulk of our problems emanate.

Wow, I didn't know that. I know that the idea of Syria is bigger than the modern country of Syria, but I wasn't aware that it the movement had been active in the 16rh century.

Yeah. You seem to be in the unfortunate position of being divided into three, equally large minorities. And you can always count on the fact that people will try and stir thinhgs up for their own ends (I'm from Northern Ireland)
Sadly, since the civil war millions of Christian have been immigrating, and now they only constitute about 25% of the population. Shiites and Sunnis almost equal each other, with a bit of advantage to the Shiites.
True. And you cant forget the fact that Lebanon is penetrated by every military secret service in the world. So there is the very real possibility of country's stirring up mayhem to initialize their own political agenda.
Northern Ireland. The part controlled by England?

Where have they been emigrating to? (Btw, Emigrating is leaving a country, so immigrating is the opposite; so in English you said that millions of Christians have entered Lebanon :icon_razz: )
Btw, It says something about George W. Bush that he managed to wipe out Christianity in an area which has withstood Zoroastrian Persians, Muslim Arabs, Turks, Mongols, Persians again, Turks again, and the Arabs again, about 2,000 years of defiance and oppression, and as soon as the Americans arrived it pratically vanishes within 6 years. That would be an achievement, if it wasn't so abysmal.

Lebanon sounds like on of those unfortunate countries which happens to be caught in the crossfire :(

As an idea it had existed since the 16th century when a plot was devised amongst Christians to contact Italy and with its help create Lebanon despite the fact that the area was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. Of course the Ottomans would have had nothing of it, and strangled the uprising.
could i get a reference or citing pls
Lebanon as an idea had existed in the hearts and minds of the Christians, they always dreamed of procuring a state of their own separate from Muslim influence and authority. While the Muslims historically always bounded themselves with the Syrian sphere of influence. You can know understand from where the bulk of our problems emanate.
so let me understand this,
you want a Christian Lebanon?
a Jewish Israel & a Muslim Palistine?

Woops, thanks for the correction. They have been Emigrating mostly to France, U.S.A, Canada, Brazil, Australia and the Gulf of Arabia countries.
It is indeed. The Christians of Iraq are being forced to relocate, the reason why Christian numbers in Syria are rising sharply. What an abomination that war is.
Being caught in the crossfire is one of Lebanon's trademark's. Which part of England?

"In the 16th century, the special relationship between Emir Fakhreddine and the Medicis family of Tuscany was instrumental in forging modern Lebanon as we know it today"
