As a spiritual provider for a large hospce organization, and the ONLY on-line teacher for certification in the Spiritual/Bereavement Hospice profession, I find it more and more real that the terminally ill are not getting the proper spiritual care from their own churches. Which leads me to this...if pastors were doing their jobs, I wouldnt have one. What I'm saying is that churches are lacking in their jobs as spiritual providers of comfort and care in the last days of the terminally ill. Believe it or not, Medicare insists on this kind of care for Medicare patients as well as Medicaid and private insurance companies patients.
So why is the denominational churches lacking in faith and love for the needy and dying? Answer is: It isnt important. It's not as important to comfort the dying or witness to the sick as it is to watch television or play golf. I wonder...how can this country maintain any measure of greatness without God? The foundational church is what this country rests upon, it's why we are still here...but that fouindation is melting and washing away with the rain of indifference. Just a thought.

pclam post something Serious for once and all we can do is talk about rzm's avatar. Maybe if we reward his seriousness it might stick.
Basics of his post for the tl;dr's out there: This is my take on it and should be subjected to others opinions on the original content and Pclam correct me if I am wrong.
Why are churches no longer comforting the dieing and needy? Why do they stop caring there flock when they are dieing? He states that the country was found on the basics of a church but is being washed away with indifference.
My post--
*note when i say this country I mean USA and I know full well this site was founded in Canada*
To me they stop caring because the needy stop paying. They are no longer able to contribute in the way the church wants so they throw them aside. Now to me this country is not founded on the foundations of the churches, many disagree with me on this and they are entitled to their opinion. This country was founded on the right to believe what you want and be who you want and say what you want. We maybe founded on Jesus' teaching but many who say we are founded on christian values don't understand what Jesus taught. Do not judge, he who is without sin cast the first stone, and love thy neighbor are all about acceptance of a person despite there flaws or beliefs and that is what this country was founded on.
Now indifference on the other hand is growing. the need for stupidity and reality tv has corrupted the human spirit and has been dumbing down society and making this jokes of anyone who is in need. A lot is do to with how more religious this company is got but do to there stupidity they do not understand their own religion. It is more of a I am better then you, you are going to hell, let me keep my gun, and lets leave the needy out because they are just fucking bums. This mentality is destroying the compassion of the American person.
By the way Pclam I have big respect for what you do even if I do not believe in it. I have had a grandma who was in hospice before and they need someone there to keep them happy. Also my brother is Autistic and lives in a home and someone who takes there time for bad pay to help people out is always deserving of my respect, even if you may tick me off and post random shit. Just don't smoke like most care givers... that'll kill yea. ;p

Resisting the urge to discuss Skinner and Schedules of reinforcements, I launch in.
Mofo, as all ways, you raise great questions. Problem is your not taking in the context. This person is a Hospice nurse, one of the worst down trodden jobs in the union, and it's populated almost exclusively by people with an interest in spiritualism. Reason being, there is no money in ushering the dead unto death. So they tend to be ignored by corporations and churches alike.
Let me say, a Hospice nurse is a hero. One who takes on a job that absolutely nobody wants.
Now to answer your question, Churches, at least large ones, are more interested in money than their congregations, and it seems that the spiritual safety net that you would think would exist there is exists less and less. We are all prone to the effects of money, because we need it to survive, and the church, in many places have suffered this effect of natural laws.
I know your aggravated. Just, ask yourself, why you do what you do. Is it for money, or to bring some corrupt tel-evangelist to light? I think not. I think you do this job because you know that your the only one that is willing to do so. You know, it's a waist of time blaming society. Just help the man or woman. Do what you do.

I do not believe I took it outta context. I stated the reason was money as you did. I just focused more on his answer to the question he brought forth, and focus more on society then just the small group he talked about. A understanding of a bigger society can lead to an understanding of a smaller society.
They are not a hospice nurse but a spirital provider for a hospice.
