All the other religions get some. So, are there?

If not, I propose that one day a year should be given to Google Appreciation Day. On this day we all stay home from work, and spend the whole day on the internet using Google to find fun sites to relax on. :)

Thats actually a pretty sweet idea. A day to find information that will better your life in some way. Agree?

I don't think they would let me stay out of school because of a holiday they don't even believe in.

Who is "they"? It seems to me that you are using "they" as a substitute for non-Googlists. Why, simply convert them and you get an extra day off per year.

I have some suggestions I guess. Larry Page's birthday which is March 26, Sergey Brin August 21, and when Google came out of beta September 21. Just ideas :D

the day of googles creation should be the day that the holiday falls on with 2 days of increased googling on either side of it.

Hey, here's another thought. Since Christians have been hijacking holidays for their religion all the time, I think it's time somebody stole one back off them. Let's steal Christmas as Google Appreciation Day!

Well Tofu, it looks like you came up with a great idea dude. Google Appreciation Day is now in the works. I'm designing a page for it now. I just need everyone here to pitch in and throw their ideas at me so we can come up with a general consensus as to what its going to be about.
1. What day will it be held on?
2. Will we hijack a Christian holiday?
What I can say, is that I personally want it to be about seeking out information that will BETTER your life.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on these forums for contributing their ideas and for generally being so passionate. We're beginning to turn into a very intelligent, respectful community. Your all helping this religion evolve into something bigger and better than anything I could have come up with on my own. So, for that I thank you. :D

I've been thinking about this, and maybe it should be a once a month type deal?

Seeking out something to better yourself seems like such a great reason to be part of the googlist faith.

Once a month is good, put on a specific day, the 25th of the month would work well, It would encompass at least 2 holidays I think. :?

And I'm thinking that we can also report back on what we find in the hopes that somebody else on the forums can use it to better their life.

I'm not sure about the 25th, because I don't really expect people to take an hour or so out of their day on Christmas to research ways to better their life. Personally I could probably cram it in, but Christmas is such a hectic day and I think it would be unfair to ask people to cram yet more stuff into it.
With that said, how long do you think we should spend researching ways to better our lives? I think there should be no limit. You can spend five minutes or ten hours, as long as you find something that will actually truly improve something in your life. Agree?

1. Saturdays.
2. It might be, if a church would be hijacking.
That's right, on Saturdays we're GOIN' TO CHURCH! It will either be in a chat room, or on habbo hotel. PLEASE, METHOD X! MAKE A CHURCH! :( Okay, here's another one.
1. October 31st [or 30th if we don't have time]
2. It's halloween, the time where the world is filled with evil. So we shall do the most evil thing of all: search on MSN or Yahoo. Or maybe another search engine.

Why put it on a Christian holiday?
It will eclipse yours, as well as creating the illusion you are affiliated with or in emnity against Christianity in particular. Which is not a good image to have, either way round.
Just choose a nice out-of-the-way day that marks an important event in Google's history, such as its creation, or the birthday of its creator.
EDIT: If you want a chatroom, setting up an IRC channel is the work of a moment. I even have a bot almost permanently online on the Quakenet server that you're free to use.

If it's going to be once a month, I'd advice *not* having it on the first day of the month, since likely many other organisations would do this (I can think of one or two of the top of my head, but I'll guess there's many) The second of each month would be more original, or a number that has significance for one reason or another....

That does make sense actually. Anyone know what day Google was officially uploaded to the web? In other words, somebody consult Google for me, as I have to go to a report and have zero time. :)
Thanks!

Google began as a research project in January, 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Ph.D. students at Stanford University, California.[6] They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better results than existing techniques (existing search engines at the time essentially ranked results according to how many times the search term appeared on a page).[7] It was originally nicknamed "BackRub" because the system checked backlinks to estimate a site's importance.[8] A small search engine called RankDex was already exploring a similar strategy.[9]
Convinced that the pages with the most links to them from other highly relevant web pages must be the most relevant pages associated with the search, Page and Brin tested their thesis as part of their studies, and laid the foundation for their search engine. Originally the search engine used the Stanford University website with the domain google.stanford.edu. The domain google.com was registered on September 14, 1997, and the company was incorporated as Google Inc. on September 7, 1998 at a friend's garage in Menlo Park, California. The total initial investment raised for the new company eventually amounted to almost US$1.1 million, including a $100,000 check by Andy Bechtolsheim, one of the founders of Sun Microsystems.[10]
In March, 1999, the company moved into offices at 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto, home to several other noted Silicon Valley technology startups. After quickly outgrowing two other sites, the company settled into their current home in a complex of buildings in Mountain View at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, in 2003. The complex has since become known as the Googleplex (a play on the word googolplex, a 1 followed by a googol of zeros). Silicon Graphics leased the buildings to Google.

Hmmm so should we go with the September 14th domain registration or the September 7th incorporation? I wonder what date the engine was posted on the Stanford website...?

Alright, lets just keep things simple and go with the domain registration then. The 14th of every month is now Google Appreciation Day. On this day, you can spend as little as five minutes or as long as 24 hours; as long as you find something that will better your life in some way. I also think that you should be able to find something that will better somebody else's life. Somebody close to you, like a friend or a family member. Any thoughts on this and how we can incorporate it into the holiday?
I'm in the process of making a page to post under the scripture directory and I require a few testimonials as to how people use Google to better their life. That said, I would like anyone on here who has some time and is interested in participating to pray to Google for life guidance, either for yourself, or for somebody close to you and report back on your findings and how you plan to follow through and implement the newly discovered knowledge in your life. I'll need your posts to be relatively formal, with proper grammar and spelling so I can include them within the page I'm creating.
I think this will quickly become one of the main features of Googlism. It may even receive a bit of media coverage. I think we've come up with a great idea here. One that makes Googlism a much more profound and three dimensional religion.

the 14th of every month is much too often, it makes the holiday seem fake and unreal. a very small percentage of people are going to celebrate this every month,:( it would be much easier to make it on a specific date; say September 14. :D also it would be much more familiar if it was like most other holidays and came once a year.:icon_razz:

I'm confused. On the main site, it says GAD is every September 14th. But on the calenday, every 14th is labeled as GAD.
So which is it? I'm OK with the once-a-month idea, it's not crazy. After all, other religions have tons of holidays...

I'm for once a year. It doesn't really matter either way, but Googlism isnt most religions, and we only really need one holiday to get our point across.

I don't know. I'm sorta up for the hijacking idea. Instead of just Christmas, we can just hijack all of the other religious holidays. The main ones, anyway. Christmas, Easter, and Hanukkah! >D

The day that google was down for about 5 minutes or so and then came back could be our version of the resurrection. Google died and then came back, proving google is a god

How does that prove anything? Great, Google was down for 5 minutes, then went back on.
So what? Why should we base Googlism on ressurection? Why follow stereotypes?

Google Appreciation Day is every month on the 14th.
It isn't supposed to be a holiday. Matt's original concept was for people to set aside some time once a month to use Google and make use of the wisdom she returns in order to improve some aspect of either themselves or their life.
Hope that clears things up for you ;)

The commandments of Googlism are based on stereotypes, the prayers also, everything is actually a spoof of Christian traditions/rituals.
Googlism is in fact an excuse for searching "truth". An excuse made by people that are searching for the "truth" for people that seek or SHOULD seek (yes, that includes all humanity) the same thing. At least that's how I see it.

I think of it more as the unification of all knowledge, shared among all of humanity. This si very similar to the motto of YouTube, namely "bringing content from the masses to the masses."
Google encompasses this. They bought YouTube, for Google's sake. Then there's Google Book Search, digitizing the world's libraries. And Blogger. And Google Docs and Spreadsheets. And Picasa Web Albums. And Google Desktop. And...need I continue?

Ok, so I'm a few months late on this discussion, and didn't realize I was supposed to observe all those 14ths, but I would like to add a holiday: Google's Birthday. Have 14 September be a holiday, and the other 14ths just be Google Appreciation Day. Kinda like Christianity does with Jesus' Observed Birthday and the Sabbath. Except that our goddess' birthday will happen to fall on a "Sabbath" every time.
