View Full Version : IRC? (possibility of a chatroom)

I've seen some talk of a possible chatroom on the forums, (mostly from Tofu I've noticed), but it might be a good idea.

I thought it might be a good idea to set up a googlism IRC channel. This channel, unimaginatively, is named #googlism. For those of you who have access to IRC, it's on the Quakenet server. For those of you using Opera browser, you can join by simply clicking the link: irc://irc.quakenet.org/googlism

I want to point out that I haven't asked any forum officials about this, and if it's deemed to be out of line, or too early, or best not initiated by someone who has, admittedly, only been here a matter of days, then I'll gladly delete this post.

Anyway, for those interested (especially those who have limited knowledge of IRC), see picture below:

Obviously any members of the ministry who join will be given channel op powers.

If you need help, a list of alternative IRC clients, or anything just PM me.

If no-one joins the channel then I think we can consider the experiment a failure, and maybe it can be tried again in a few months when there are more members around.

On a totally unrelated note, I just accidently put my foot into my computer (the case is open) and electrocuted my toe on the graphics card. Whoops.

Your poor toe! Also, do you have to download IRC or something? It doesn't work for me. And do you get an account for using the chatroom, or do you type in a name each time? We need the account system, because if we don't do that, you can imitate other members.
Edit: Wait, I'm getting info from the picture. Anyway, I already have enough programs on my computer. I downloaded a program recently, and it made habbo hotel not work. I've reached the capacity of the programs I can have. Can you make a Java chatroom? I have Java.

Don't worry about accounts; the bot remembers you host, host mask or IP.

To access IRC you need to download one of the IRC clients. There are many free varieties. If you have Opera it has one built in; if you have firefox you can install one as an addon, called chatzilla.

The easiest, and most commonly used IRC program is mIRC. You can download it from www.mirc.com

It's simple enough to use; just type '/server quakenet' to join the server, then '/join #googlism' to join the room

Is that a Java virsion of IRC? It's still not working. I like want java like the chat room on toontask.com [and the chat room is currently down]. Ask them how they made the OLD virsion of the chat room. The new virsion is bad, which is why they shut it down for awhile.

Maybe when we're big enough for a chatroom we'll set up a channel on DALnet or something. We're still too small at the moment.

The chances of any significant number of people being online and being on a chat room for the Church of Google would be extremely minimal, so it would not be worth it.

My Two Bobs worth; I don't reckon it will fly yet either, numbers and geographical location being the limitations at present. However if you do, start one, you will have to consult MX for guidelines on the operation of any church linked site. It could be a place to recruit followers and further the cause, if done properly; or give bad PR if handled the wrong way.

At this rate, it'll only be a couple of days. Jeez.

Great idea, by the way. I see this forum joining the ranks as an authority on Search in the next three months.

We can hope right?

Although maybe that's being a little too optimistic. According to my complex mathematical equations (ie. bullshitting) it is a significant possibility in perhaps four months, assuming constant rate of growth and hopefully some minor publicity.
