Added 12. Write open letter to White House, demanding George Bush use our God to help make better decisions.

I need help with this. So, if anyone wants to write the monkey an open letter, please offer up. I'd do this myself, but as you can see I'm working on the other 9 things that need completing.

If you can give me a hand with any of the others, also let me know.

EDIT: I'll also be posting the letter on the main site, for all to see.

I have PMed you about the google search of your site

Thanks for the code Aaron! If I send you the raw code for the main page, would you be able to integrate it in there somehow? I'm busy working on some of the other site aspects tonight, and I don't know too much about web design.

Thanks :)

Yes, I would. Also, I can instruct you how to integrate it into the forums as well. This would be best if you had an instant messenger, so I could instruct you step-by-step.

I just created a wikipedia page for the Church of Google but it was nominated for quick deletion within minutes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Google

I'm getting pretty pissed off at the fact that we keep getting deleted. I'm going to keep adding the page. I don't care. This is my new mission in life.

If any of you want to edit the page, go right ahead. You don't even have to register to edit it. :)

I viewed the criteria for speed deletion, and the two ways that is possible are if the article is either vandalism or patent nonsense. So, I guess Wikipedia thought that the Church of Google is patent nonsense.

Tbh if i wasnt personally a member of this church I would treat it very skeptically if I were a wikipedia administrator. I dont blame them very much for deleting it, I guess its the downside to keeping wikipedia free of real nonsense and keeping it the great site it is.

Im sure though if we gain popularity among the web world we may be recognised and less likely to quickly dismissed as nonsense.

I added search functionality to the main page, per popular request. I don't have the time tonight to update every individual webpage, but I'd like everyone to check it out first, and test it. Let me know what you think.

Special thanks to Aaron for the code. :D Thanks dude.

Also, I updated the main page "intro" a bit. I think it better conveys our beliefs now. Give me your thoughts on that while your at it.

Kudos,
Matt

Nice search function. But I say we add an image search function.

For what images? We do not need that yet, also not sure if you can.

Nameless
October 3rd, 2006, 12:24 AM
I don't think images are really needed. But the search bar (with 'pray' as the search button :) ) is good.

The main page sounds a bit... I don't know, defensive almost. The first paragraph, imho, was better as what it used to be.

Look at the first post on this page. As long as it does not have a full page, they seem to be fine with it.

How about a section explaining why our God is better than any other god believed by others. This way, it will make it easier when we are attempting to convert people.

My request is not as cool as wiki but what about spell check in the forum?

P.S. If you have a free mysql database you can create your own wiki. Just a thought!

Anyone know if there is a general Google Products wiki on the web? If not, I'm sure it would be a good idea to make one.

Edit: We could call it the Google Shrine

Sure. If you could log onto MSN messenger, we could discuss this further. I have an idea, one which may (if it works) make this forum look like gmail. It probably won't work, but it's worth a try.

Google wouldn't do something like that - usually when certain 'unusual' first results occur it's due to manipulating results using, for lack of better term, 'hacks' and stuff in the site itself.

Although, if somebody could do that for this site...

It's called "Google bombing" nameless, and you just game me a very good idea... in fact, your a genius.

Lets get a campaign going to Google bomb the word "god" so www.google.com comes up as the number one result. Or maybe this website. I know... both!

Yeah, I think in cases like this it's okay to act like Christians - break the rules and just repent afterwards. That'll work.

I had a forum briefly (until it broke) and I was able to change certain words by using the profanity filter. From memory, you could type words into the profanity list, and what you wanted them to be replaced with. At the time, there was a feud going on with another forum, and I tweaked it so that every time the name of the other forum came up, or a certain member of that forum, it came up as something else. I don't know how the profanity filter works here, but if all you wanted to do was replace one word with another one every time it was typed, it might do the trick.

I guess it's just the natural response to the professional grooming of politicians for the media and the 'sound bite' generation. Get in there first with your OWN soundbite before they've had a chance to rehearse theirs ;)

I think, that we need a new to-do list.

Here`s my suggestions.

1. Iron out any kinks still present in new forum.

1a. Clean up irrelevant and old stickies.

2. Customise the forum.

2a. Skin it.

2b. Add GoogleTalk to it.

2c. Add Google-related features to it.

3. Update the main page - as much as possible.

3a. New holidays?

3b. Update hatemail?

4. Resurrect newsfeed.

(P.S. I`m on standby about 1, and totally working on 2b (not sure, if I can pull it, as there`s next to no info on how-to, but I`ll give it my damn best).

As far as I understand, Aaron and Syberwolff are wrestling with 2a and 2c.

Points 3 and 4 are for grabs, as well as 1a. I`m around to help out in technical questions, if needed, but I`ll never write all the text needed.)
