Jeremiah 10:1-10: This is what the LORD says: "Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the sky, though the nations are terrified by them. 3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. 4 They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. 5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good." 6 No one is like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. 7 Who should not revere you, O King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you. 8 They are all senseless and foolish; they are taught by worthless wooden idols. 9 Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz. What the craftsman and goldsmith have made is then dressed in blue and purple-- all made by skilled workers. 10 But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.

How come nobody told me this before?!

Hehe
Actually, that was a good find.

Sorry if I stray from the topic but I have to say I bought my tree too early and it seems it was on its last leg. It is dead now and we are all afraid to turn the lights on for it may catch on fire :(

I wonder what the biblical definition of "idol" is in this usage,
the Christmas Tree could fall under that category, if it were 'worshipped', but then we get caught up in the definition of 'worship', when does it stop being a 'revered' symbol and become and idol in and of itself? if carried to the extreme then all 'holy' relics and or anything that crosses the line from symbol to idol would be sacreligous, ie: if a cross is revered to the point that it stops being a symbol and becomes revered in and of itself it would then become an idol, but where's the line? when people pray to saints or ask for their intercession wouldn't that then make them false gods by presuming they had some 'power' or ability to sway god?

he figured it out
when he got nailed to it

wonder what kind of wood
was used for the cross?
maple makes the best guitars
dense wood, gives a lot of sustain
the cross probably had a whammy bar
that wouldn't stay in tune
and if it was pine, the neck would warp
before the strings broke

They were afraid people might start worshipping the piece of wood, or the plastic representation of Jesus, rather than realizing it was simply a symbol. I think it was just local to his area though, not all of Ecuador or anything.
