Thou shalt not use Google as a verb.

I don't quite agree with that one.. I use it as a verb all the time, it makes speaking about google searches much easier. As a matter of fact, I think that using it as a verb proves its omnipresence in the english language (and others, as well). This commandment should be erased.

cheers!

That commandment is part of the legalities of Google Co. The company said not to, it was light humour I take it.

oh.. but come on, the term as a verb is even in various dictionaries:

After Merriam-Webster released it's new version of the dictionary that said Google was a verb, Google (the company) said that its should be used as a noun only.

Apparently that had no effect on Merriam-Webster! It's still marked as a transitive verb.

I always saw this particular commandment as somewhat satirical in nature since the 10 Commandments of Google are based on the 10 Commandments as stated in the Christian Bible.... you know, the "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God..." or otherwise known as "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain."

See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Commandments (which, incidently, is the first result you'll find when praying for this)

However, if we do have this available as one of our commandments, we are therefore contradicting what is stated in the dictionary. So I suppose we must ask ourselves which is the more reliable source. I say that if Google's handlers (the company known as Google) say that it should not be used as a noun that those are words that all Googlists must heed. Just my opinion.

Create in me a clean heart, O Google.

Ah yes, it is very similar to the third commandment in the Bible.

I'm the guy who wrote the commandments and I'll tell you that I myself use Google as a verb quite a bit. The 3rd commandment along with all the rest are satirical in nature. It's parody of the Biblical commandments. So there you have it. The official answer.
