Dear stupid government,

Please leave the Internet alone. Please stop trying to interfere with my life, and get out of my way. I acknowledge your concerns about cyber-security, but shutting down the Internet would be the problem, not the solution. That would be seen as a cyber attack itself. Nobody should have the power to deny access to http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo2.gif.

tagnostic
June 11th, 2010, 01:36 AM
well said,

turkey is currently denying access to google
as of course is china,
freedom of information
is freedom from oppression
guess who fears it?

not a conspiracy type
but when they want that
it does make me wonder

why?

I'd say Ubuntu, the least. BUT IDEALISTICALLY, you guys got it good.

Except for flash. :D

Gotta get that after the install.

tagnostic
June 15th, 2010, 04:15 AM
really?
i didn't notice on the mint
mine's set for only on click
and i thought the 10.04 did
it automatically on install?

rzm61
June 15th, 2010, 04:34 AM
Nah. If I'm not mistaken, Mint is the only one at the moment that has flash already packaged up and ready to go once it's installed.

Mint pretty much works flawlessly right after install.
Ubuntu just works no matter what. You just have to install a thing or two. No big deal.

Without strong net neutrality rules, we
might have to rely upon the good Will. of
large telecoms to protect our access to
the diversity of political perspectives. We
might have to trust companies like
Comcast, which actively and secretly
interfered with users' ability to access
popular video, photo and music sharing
applications. We might have to trust
companies like AT&T, which censored
anti-Bush comments made by Pearl
Jam's lead singer during a concert.

i am not decided on this one yet.

i hate the idea of giving the government more control over anything or "net neutrality" especially the internet one of the last few free places we have left,

i also question the "big business is evil bad" idea that seems to be behind it we need net neutrality because the big businesses are doing what exactly?

lots of debate on this (http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/net-neutrality-john-mccain-says-no-glenn-beck-sees-a-marxist-p/19206288/) all over, not all of it makes sense

tagnostic
June 18th, 2010, 06:50 AM
it goes back to when
a couple of the major
networks were delibaretly
bottle necking high download
traffic claiming that anybody
using that much bandwidth
was probably pirating
and were giving preference
to customers using their
services, it was ruled
illegal, then it got another
jump when networks decided
they could filter certain sites
at their discretion, that one
is still on appeal

leave the net alone
net neutrality means no special treatment
for any site and no blocking any site,
no bottle necking usage as long as your paying
for the bandwidth

but keep checking it out
no such thing as too much
information

Will.
June 18th, 2010, 03:54 PM
Yeah, It also targeted net Hijinx, and Terrorism, (i.e.Will.sometimes.)
Who would tail these large information transfers, jacking the bandwith speed, to progress our constant idiocracies.

the more i see the less i like. regulating the internet with a regulatory system built to deal with communications in the time of rotary phones.

WTF indeed.

i think i am decided now .

my distrust of government wins out!
if the big bad corporations get slippy with it i will vote with my dollar or support situation specific legislation

net neutrality is a government power grab at worst and government incompetence at best.

i want to reboot
the government
Feeling good about government is like looking on the bright side of any catastrophe. When you quit looking on the bright side, the catastrophe is still there.
P. J. O'Rourke (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/p/pjorour166849.html)

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.
George Washington (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/g/georgewash118164.html)

Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.
Thomas Paine (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomaspain100996.html)

If human beings are fundamentally good, no government is necessary; if they are fundamentally bad, any government, being composed of human beings, would be bad also.
Fred Woodworth (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/f/fredwoodwo161692.html)

It is easy to destroy a country, all you need is information and enough people who are angry or dislike how it's going. But no matter how many times you "reboot it" it's still going to end up in the same screwed up and corrupt state.
