he is arrogant and the change you get, will not be the change you want.

everything he touches will end up going bad for the US and freedom (this is why i am undecided over in the net neutrality thread) i dont trust him or his government

what alot of people seem to be forgetting, is that people as a WHOLE... DO NOT LIKE CHANGE!!!!

We in NZ are having some similar issues at the moment with our new government, and the reality is, that if everything is done instantly, the population rebels.... So most governments have a tendancy to change things by slow degrees, over many years...
Meaning that... on top of the MANY MANY years it takes to adequatly plan a massive change to MILLIONS OF LIVES.... they also need to implement these plans VERY slowly to not shock the population of their countries...

Unfortunatly the general population do not understand this, and governments are usually voted out halfway through trying fixing the mess they inherited... Beginning the process yet again...

In saying this however... i really do not agree with obama's
"Spend ourselves out of debt" philosophy (at least it seems like thats what he's thinking) and think he is a little slow in thinking that would work for a nation, when it doesn't work for an individual person :icon_lol:

What could you expect? Good chaange? No. The only reason police officers and politicians don't approve of illegal tender is because of A, the owner probably doesn't vote and B, because of A probably doesn't pay taxes for it.

So what I'm saying is.... You as a nation, Do not care, We the proud Canuckistan are going to be targeting, Montana, Washington, and maybe Mexico, as new settlements we will call Astum, Wn'chsk, and Atim.

i would'a liked a Paul Romney mix too,
the gold slandered thing is a bit to unlikely, but he is right about the fed being a big problem.. if he asks for ending them and just gets making what they are up to transparent we would be a lot better off

if you like libertarian monetary conspiracy theory watch this.. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6076118677860424204#

its "out there" but interesting -- grain of salt required

Tsar Phalanxia
July 2nd, 2010, 08:28 PM
Problem with the Gold Standard is that Aggregate Demand (I.e. Demand in an economy) can get confused for Demand for Gold, and so increasing prices in gold is seen as the economy is getting richer. This can lead to economic bubbles, a la, 1920's.

The Fed is an odd arrangement, I'll give you that, but the US' simply needs a Central Bank. Maybe a system such as the Bank of England would be more appropriate, but I haven't heard any such suggestions from Paul (Although I am happy to be corrected)

tagnostic
July 2nd, 2010, 08:41 PM
he wants to get rid of the fed
and go to a mixed commodities
standard of gold, platinum, oil
at a fixed dollar/quantity ratio
a few other commodities
could be utilized but oil
is the only one with a
shelf life, all the others
must be durable/raw

and get rid of the IRS too
i'm all down with that

same here less government is better, not a hundred percent convinced we can escape the fiat dollar altogether. but letting the fed set how much money they can loan and how much interest gets charged and all of it with little or no oversight and behind closed doors is scary..

Tsar Phalanxia
July 2nd, 2010, 09:03 PM
Keynes proposed something like that at Bretton Woods called the Bancor, but it didn't take off, possibly because it had a silly name.

A lot would depend on what values for each the dollar was set up, and the entire context of the shift, such as the Dollar's status as a reserve currency, but fundamentally, something like that has nothing theoretically going against it. But then, on the other hand, perhaps inflating the U.S' debts away maybe the only way to get out of the debt problem...

The U.S. Tax code is fiendishly structured, so that each little check box, if removed has barely any effect on Joe Consumer, but has massive consequences for those to whom the box is directed at. So to simplify the system, you'd have to convince Joe Consumer that getting rid of all those little check boxes was a good idea, against all the vested interests who gain billions of pounds from the boxes.

tagnostic
July 2nd, 2010, 09:16 PM
the budget this year for the IRS
is 21 billion, thats just to take
our money, if we can simplify
that it would be a damn good
start to getting a balanced
budget, which is constitutional
but too many politicians rely on
pork spending to get/stay elected
instead of on their actual ideas
and plans to make our lives
better which is what their stated
purpose is, now it seems to be
to live the good life on my $
and to hell with their constituents
until the next election
I'd get rid of an assload of depts
and committees that don't have
any real purpose except to take
my money and tell me how to live
my life, Fannie & Freddie come to mind
kill them both right off the top, Hud would be next
no more money for the UN, no more aid for people
who hate us, i don't give a damn who's starving where
we're hurting over here, if Bono wants to feed darfur
let him do it, he can afford it, same goes for every
hollywood asshole who makes a commercial about
the poor and hungry, give them your damn money
you can afford it i can't

beck is a commentator not a news source,
he is also very controversial, so everything he says is watched carefully for mistakes that he can be called on and that can be used against him.

he is probably double checking all his sources and only using ones that are impeccable to avoid making mistakes.

on his soros stuff he happens to be mostly quoting soros himself so i bet it is accurate.

news stations are not owned by political party's, but they are owned by
people with strong political ideology's and party loyalty's and it shows in the "reporting"

Sporkinator
November 19th, 2010, 08:02 PM
I still find it funny that Fox News covers stuff that other news stations completely ignore. In particular, it's strange that other news stations would ignore things.

Seriously, that George Soros guy is disturbed. Collapsing currencies and economies. Who here opposes the idea of a global government? I know I do. Big government = bad.

gman
November 19th, 2010, 08:09 PM
i oppose it!
local government is corrupt enough and tries to take freedom already, and we can just barely keep a handle on them,
a global government would be tyrannical just by being global..

Sporkinator
November 19th, 2010, 08:14 PM
Yeah, despite what you all think about Glenn Beck, I think he's right. Soros wants to collapse the US dollar so that we'll have to use a global currency and have global government. I've seen stuff like this in Christian End-of-World/Apocalypse movies that were made years ago. I shudder at the idea of stuff from a movie actually coming true. Creepy...
