I think it all depends on where you're at. LGBT rights are more prominent in South Africa ("corrective rape" and murder of Eudy Simelane) right now then they are here (USA). This is not to say that the US doesn't have a lot of people fighting for gay rights. We just have other things that are prominent in international media, like a lot of people being pissed off about the new TSA security measures. The Democratic Party of Japan supports a monthly allowance to families with children (¥26,000 a month, I think). It all depends on what is going on around you, and what is relevant to you.
